Each service is guided by a common philosophy: a Consultant's role in a writer's project or in a student's education is to connect, empower, teach so that ideas are communicated clearly, logically, and persuasively. Writing is an active, creative, iterative process. More than translating ideas into words, the writing process allows us to interrogate our reasoning, rethink our assumptions, and empathize with our readers.

Editing
More than just "fixing" things like sentence structure and grammar the Griffix approach is to address the higher-order issues that reduce the comprehension, readability, and persuasiveness of your writing.
While working with a Consultant, you're always in charge.
We prefer an "if/then" approach: presenting you with a range of potential meanings one might take away from a given statement. That way, you can confirm your intended meaning (the "if") and follow the suggested edit that matches that meaning (the "then"). This method ensures you connect with your readers exactly how you intended, instead just deferring to an editor's best hunch; it also sniffs out issues of logic in both descriptive and persuasive writing.
Additionally, your Consultant also provides "Editor's Notes": a long-form roadmap for future improvements.

Fund Development
Navigating the hurdles of securing and maintaining funding -- whether as a student, artist, community organization, or business leader -- can be a challenge: but there are fewer things in life with a greater return on investment than a well-crafted proposal. By dedicated a few days of time and energy to it, the right source of funding can jumpstart your future in a big way.
Griffix knows this. We have extraordinary success securing funding for all sorts of individuals and organization. Your consultant will work with you hand-in-hand to create a compelling and detailed pitch that takes into account the source, the requirements, and the genre-specific conventions that create barriers to a successful application.
We're so confident that we can help you achieve funding that we provide an optional contingency rate for proposals above $10,000: meaning that you won't have to pay us if your funding bid is unsuccessful (though, to be honest, that hasn't happened yet).
Tutoring Services
Griffix tutoring services teaches a student how to write more effectively over the long term by working with them to improve their existing writing projects. This approach has proven advantages over classroom-based instruction: students are motivated to better their grades by improving their current assignments, while the tutor can craft personalized lessons that are informed by issues in the student's own writing.
As the student improves, lessons move from general "higher-order" issues (those of structure and logic) to focus on "lower-order" issues (those of comprehensibility and style).
Griffix also has experience working with those with learning disabilities, specifically dyslexia. For those who qualify, full funding is available through the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities.
Intensive Collaboration
Some projects are so important that every word counts. University admissions, funding grants, cover letters — these few sheets of paper can change the course of a life.
Times like those call for intensive collaboration between a writer and a professional. Griffix has had incredible success with these projects, helping clients secure hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants and bursaries, as well as admission to prestigious universities such as Cambridge and Oxford.
Intensive collaboration pulls out all the stops. It starts with strategically planning our approach to the project, factoring in timelines, previous awardees, program information, your previous writing — anything that can help create an impressive and persuasive application. We move onto structuring a scaffold for the application, that the client will make a first attempt at completing. Then, we write and revise until every line, every word, is executing a specific purpose that aids the document as a whole.

Writing Audits
Deadlines and academic pressures often stand in the way of diagnosing and addressing the problems in one's writing. Writing Audits sidestep that problem by taking a finished piece of writing and having a Consultant thoroughly review the work with you.
Part editing, part tutoring, writing audits are for those who feel like their writing is holding them back but their not quite sure why. Here, there's no pressure to "get it right", so you can slow down to review errors in structure and style with a Consultant who has "seen it all before".
Writing Audits are conducted in two portions: an initial review done by the consultant and a one-on-one review shared between the consultant and the writer. You'll walk away with a line-edited copy of your work and an "audit report" of prioritized issues and notable strengths.
It's a satisfying and efficient way to become the writer you know you can be.
